Cuiaba:
Coach Fabio Capello known for his disciplinarian attitude has imposed a social media black out on his Russian squad at the World Cup.
That means no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram nor any of the other forms of online communication until they leave Brazil.
The Italian, explaining his reasons for the draconian measure on Monday, said: "Players can't use social media here.
"They must abstain for one month, then when they get home they can go crazy."
Warming to his theme he continued: "Tweets sometimes can be a nuisance, if they're not written in an intelligent fashion - so in order to prevent that nuisance I'd prefer to ask my players not to use social media."
Capello was speaking in Cuiaba on the eve of Russia's opening Group H game against South Korea.

Apparently, a fan from China took football waaaay too seriously and died of sleep deprivation after watching the games in Brazil for consecutive nights.

Chinese fan dies after staying up too late to watch the World Cup

  • Chinese fan found dead in his home after Holland 5-1 win over Spain
  • Sleep deprivation from staying up to watch World Cup believed to be cause
  • Parts of Brazil are 11 hours behind China, with games airing there in the middle of the night
A Chinese fan has reportedly died after after staying up for too many nights in a row to watch the World Cup.
A 25-year-old man was found in his home in Suzhou, an area near Shanghai, sat infront of a TV set just hours after Holland's 5-1 thumping of Spain on Friday.
Salvador, the Brazilian city where the game took place on Friday, is 11 hours behind Shanghai, meaning fans in China have to stay up all through the night to follow the tournament.

With the game kicking off at 4pm local time, it did not finish in China until around 5 in the morning, and doctors believe his death could have been caused by the sleep deprivation.
Medical experts have now warned football fans in China about the dangers should they sacrifice sleep during the tournament.
It's not the first time a Chinese football fan has died after staying awake to watch the game.
During Euro 2012 one supporter spent 11 sleepless nights watching every game of the tournament and died from exhaustion.
Chinese hospitals also saw a surge in patients admitted with symptoms of exhaustion during the World Cups in 2006 and 2010.

I wonder how many Americans die every year from choking on buffalo wings during the Superbowl?

Australia is the first team to be ousted from the world cup.

Spain could be on their way home!

In the last 10 games Chile have only lost twice and that was to Germany and Brazil. Both games away from home.

Re: Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread

Spain simply couldn't recover from the beating they had from their previous game.. That being said, every great era must come to an end.
