Re: NYPD Police Commissioner Under Fire for Stating Facts.

Facts.

Is it true that a person convicted of a felony can't vote or get a student loan? An education is the key to progressing in life. If you deny that to someone after they've done their time, it's a life sentence.

People make mistakes, do stupid things, but people change too. If you give up on someone and remove them from society for something not that bad, how can you expect them to want to contribute to society?
How many white people have been excluded from joining the LAPD with similar records as their black counterparts?
I think statistics are bullshit on the whole and get manipulated to suit any given situation.

This "poor me I am black" doesn't cut any ice with me at all.

Getting a student loan isn't the standard for succeeding in life. Like you said people can change, and even with a record if they apply themselves the can succeed. Is it harder for them? Sometimes I'm sure it is. But they are in no way removed from society.
And to clarify, felons can get student loans. They can't get a government student loan, but then again I think the government has programs that actually do give them student loans with certain qualifications.
And what about rapist? Should they get a government subsidized student loan?

Also after so many years, most minor felonies can be expunged from your record. If you have shown you've "changed".

I'm sure some felons would be great members of society if only the government gave them an education. But life isn't about people just handing you your future.

I never fully agree that the whole thing is a white vs black deal myself, statistics will never prove that, it just leaves plenty of room for assertion. I think of it more of a classist move.

So who is committing the most crimes?
committing? nobody knows. who's getting caught the most? the people being targeted the most.

Re: NYPD Police Commissioner Under Fire for Stating Facts.

Garbage. Perfect example of how you can break out numbers and percentages and cloud the situation. Because with numbers it's easy to hide a big part of the story.

Like what areas of the city were the most violent? Which areas were the most dangerous? Which areas had the worst crime? I think you know the answer. The areas with high minority populations

Which would explain why the results showed that minorities were more often the target.

It would be incredibly stupid for the cops to leave areas where 60+ murders and rapes a year and shootings every other day. And go to a area where violent crime is relatively low and frisk people to make color quotas.

Bottom line, stop and frisk was started to crack down on specific areas of the city. Where crime was the worst, where it was getting out of control. You can't talk about stop and frisk without talking about the crime it was meant to confront.
typical unsupported nonsense with you.

If you go to a predominately black area then it stands to reason that the majority of arrests would be of blacks.

the numbers represent the city as a whole....which is around 45% white, 27% hispanic/latino and 25% black. this is a city wide practice. them targeting blacks isnt news nor a myth, frankly.

I'm not commenting on the whole racism/alleged racism aspect of it. I'm just saying that there comes a point when your debt to society has been served, and people need a chance to rebuild their lives.

Personally, I understand what they were trying to achieve with affirmative action, but I don't think that its been a success.
Either you can do the job, or you can't, and that goes for women in traditionally male careers as well. Lowering the bar because someone can't cut it is bullshit IMHO.

Characterizing every felon as a rapist is bullshit. Then again, I wouldn't expect any less out of you.

Yeah, denying an 18 year old a student loan because he was caught with a small amount of marijuana makes a whole lot of sense

Yeah, lets just make this mistake a life altering event, that this kid may never be able to recover from

No doubt why you incarcerate the highest percentage of population on earth.
