More than 100 people were killed in Nigeria when a military jet mistakenly bombed a refugee camp, a state official said.

General Lucky Irabor said there had been ‘some’ civilians killed and aid workers injured

A Nigerian Air Force fighter jet on a mission against Boko Haram extremists mistakenly bombed the refugees and aid workers, the commander for counter-insurgency operations in the country’s north-east said.
The accidental bombardment in north-eastern Rann, near the border with Cameroon, killed ‘some’ civilians and wounded aid workers including Nigerians working for Doctors Without Borders and the International Committee of the Red Cross, Major General Lucky Irabor told reporters.

The incident happened close to the Cameroon border
Two soldiers were also wounded, he said, but he did not have a final toll.
Mr Irabor said he ordered the mission based on information that Boko Haram insurgents were gathering, along with geographic co-ordinates.
It was too early to say if a tactical error was made, he said.
The general said the air force would not deliberately target civilians but there will be an investigation.
This is believed to be the first time Nigeria’s military has admitted to making such a mistake.
Villagers have reported some civilian casualties in near-daily bombardments in north-eastern Nigeria in the past.

I don't think the University was in much better condition before the explosion ...
