Infant Ella Anderson is thriving after an innovative medical procedure helped revive her when she technically died during her birth, reports Yahoo. While she was being born, Ella reportedly bled to death after her mother's placenta ruptured. Although doctors were able to revive her 25 minutes after she exited the womb, they were still concerned that she could have suffered brain damage due to the oxygen deprivation that occurred during her nominal death. To help protect her brain, Ella's doctors used cooling technology to slow the metabolism of her brain, helping it to repair itself gradually over time. Thanks to the use of a blanket filled with cold water, Ella's body temperature dropped by around seven degrees Fahrenheit. "I laid my hand on her head, and she was ice cold to the touch," Jason Anderson, Ella's father, told the source. After 11 days in the hospital, Ella was allowed to return home with her family. Now, she is nine months old and has displayed no signs of brain abnormalities in medical scans. Although she still undergoes physical therapy, the source says that she is making good progress. "We still can't be sure of the future, or what problems she might face, but so far she's gone from strength to strength," said Rachel Claxton, Ella's mother. A heart warming story for a change YAAAAAY. |
