Re: NHS is Free for All Foreigners
The NHS still is a great service and we are very lucky to have it but it's the ludicrous waiting times and staff stress due to drastically increased workloads that have ruined it. Clinics run late all the time. Despite appalling waiting times, when I have eventually been seen, I can't fault my clinicians. I do hate how A&E is abused. I went up after a suspect heart attack and the amount of people all there with ailments a chemist can sort out and they're laughing, walking around, their 'ill' kids are running riot. Often, a whole family is up there and they're all sat chatting noisily. They ought to start turning away people who are obvious time-wasters - especially pissheads who constantly yell out for coffee. And get it to shut them up while Joe Bloggs has to wait hours |

Re: NHS is Free for All Foreigners
No it doesnt at all. Most people in the UK find the BNP and their supporters vile scum. Most people in the UK (including the foreigners) are hard working people who feel ashamed of the xenophobic (mostly unemployed) scum who support the BNP and the criminals in EDL. Most people in the UK have enough morals to not buy into right wing shitrags blaming the state of the NHS (and the economy for that matter) on foreigners. There is not a single shred of evidence to back that up. Of the top 20 tourist attractions in the UK only one royal residence makes it: Windsor Castle at number 17 (beaten comfortably by Windsor Legoland, in at number 7). Royal residences account for less than 1% of total tourist revenue. Indeed, the success of the Tower of London (number 6 in the list) suggests that tourism would benefit if Buckingham Palace and Windsor castle were vacated by the Windsor family. The British tourist industry is successful and robust - castles and palaces would remain a part of our heritage regardless of whether or not we have a monarchy (look at Versaille). Other attractions, such as the London Eye, Trafalgar Square, the west end, Bath, Stonehenge, Britain's beautiful countryside and so on, will continue to attract tourists in the same numbers as they do today. The government body responsible for tourism, Visit Britain, hasn't even collated statistics on the monarchy as an attraction, which shows it is not a key factor in the promotion of the UK as a tourist destination. The tourism argument has been dreamt up to distract people from the real issues. There is no evidence that the monarchy is good for tourism, in fact, there are good reasons why the opposite might be true. Imagine the potential for Buckingham Palace if it was fully opened up to tourists all year round, where visitors can explore every room and courtyard and see the grounds and the magnificent art collection. And of course popular ceremonies such as the changing of the guard will continue. With regard to cost vs a president, the key figure is £150m, the estimated total cost for the maintenance and lifestyles of one family: 100 times the cost of the Irish presidency, 17 times the cost (per person) of members of parliament and without any return on our 'investment'. To test whether something is 'value-for-money' we need to judge what we get for our money and whether we can get something better for less. The monarchy completely fails this simple test. |

Re: NHS is Free for All Foreigners
Oh god i really do hate A&E, we had a brand new one built that opened in March and it's still no better Mind you, you get those people you mention at GP's. People going for coughs and colds when a simple trip to the pharmacist can get you what you need. Pretty sure that some people go for a day trip to A&E for something to do. Brings me onto the other thread about skype calls with GP's, wonder how that will go down. |

Re: NHS is Free for All Foreigners
The BNP are the only party who want to clamp down on open-door immigration but they are too extreme overall. Not everyone who blames the state of the NHS/whatever on the pressure of foreigners are right wing either. A whole mix of people do. If people have strong opposing views to a subject, it doesn't make them overall scum. They're simply fed up and concerned and take it out on what they see. It's not a pleasant situation here, there's a lot of pressure and high emotions. Our government are the scum, if you want to call someone that The A&E thing is terrible eh? Winds me right up!! |
