Netherlands: Train Derailment Several Seriously Injured
Several seriously injured after train collides with construction equipment near Voorschoten Several people were seriously injured in a collision with a passenger train in Voorschoten in South Holland on the night from Monday to Tuesday. The train crashed into construction equipment on the track. It might be a crane. Fifty passengers were on board the derailed night train. Emergency services are working to remove the injured persons from the derailed passenger train. Due to the collision, the front part of the train ended up in a meadow, the middle part is lying on its side next to the track and a fire has broken out in the rear part of the train, according to the NS spokesperson. “The emergency services were quickly on the scene,” said the NS spokesman, who speaks of a major accident. “Our first concern is for the people on the train, passengers and our colleagues.” According to the safety region, no hazardous substances were released during the collision. The accident happened around 4:00 AM. At that time, the security region spoke of a collision between a passenger and freight train, but later came back to that. Due to the accident, no trains are running between Leiden Central and The Hague. (The authorities have since scaled up to #GRIP3 . There is also now a 'code 50', so account is taken of >50 victims. 1 killed and at least 39 injured. A freight train and a passenger train collided with a mobile crane. One of the train drivers suffered broken bones but was still alive   · |
