Steve Irwin's death video used to be considered one of the Holy Grail's of deaths captured on camera. Apparently, the camera crew caught the entire thing on video, from the time he got attacked, to the medics trying to help him on the boat.

However, it appears that the world will never see that video.

Unfortunately, Irwin succumbed to his injuries, with the entire attack, Lyon and the paramedic's attempts to save him all caught on camera.

The tape was then passed on to authorities to aid their investigations.

Once returned, Discovery Communications, the network that propelled Irwin's career, said that the footage would 'never see the light of day'.

Stainton, who was a close friend of Irwin's, then went to say that 'it should be destroyed'.

"When that is finally released [after investigations], it will never see the light of day. Ever. Ever. I actually saw it, but I don't want to see it again," he told Larry King Live.

All copies of the tape were destroyed following investigations, except one - that copy was reportedly given to Irwin's wife, Terri who is said to have destroyed the tape without watching it.

Another one would be Grizzly Man Timothy Treadwill. It was recorded as an audio tape from his own camera while the bear ate him and his woman both. Parts of them remained but he got eaten… on film…

I am not going to bother investigating, but based on this thread alone, I question if that statement carries the authority of the network which produced and owns the tape, and whether the tape master is still held by the network. In the industry, the master is different than the copies. If the network is still holding the master, networks are sold, master libraries are sold, producers and network execs move on and are replaced by other decision makers.
