(AUS) A man allegedly sexually assaulted his 12-year-old daughter in front of her mother after a heated argument about an overseas mistress.

The 54-year-old man, who has been charged by Child Abuse Squad detectives, is accused of raping his child and assaulting her mother at his western Sydney home.

According to police facts tendered in court, the daughter was woken by a loud argument between her parents about her father's affair on Thursday.

It is alleged the father had travelled overseas to visit his mistress.

The young girl looked out the window and saw her mother run out of the front gate.

The father, who migrated from Vietnam more than a decade ago, then went into his child's bedroom and said "wake up and watch me kill your mother", police allege.

The unemployed man is also accused of telling his daughter that he was going to cut her mother in half. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her in her bed.

In the second sexual assault the young girl was subjected to that night, her father kissed her and attempted to have sex with her.

"The accused told (her) 'keep this a secret and don't tell anyone'," police facts state.

The mother had returned home, walked in on the scene and began screaming, prompting the father to put his pants on, the facts state.

The father is accused of then chasing the mother out of the home and kicking, pushing and punching her when she tried to get out the locked front gate.

Police later found the father hiding in a drain near the home.

The man, charged with sexual assault and other offences, on Friday appeared in Bankstown Local Court, where it was heard he tried to "mislead" the court about his alcohol consumption.

The court heard he admitted to police having red wine and whisky before the alleged attacks on his wife and daughter.

"So, like most alcoholics, he is also a liar," Magistrate Daniel Reiss remarked.

The man made an application for bail, with his lawyer submitting he didn't have a history of that type of behaviour and would forfeit his passport.

But Mr Reiss found there was a high risk of very serious bail breaches.

Bail was refused and the case has been adjourned until May.
