Mum faces jail for leaving kids in squalid pit

A MUM who left two young children at home alone surrounded by human excrement and rubbish is facing jail.

Emily Harbour, 22, even told the four-year-old boy that he was 'old enough to look after himself'.

But when police broke in and asked if he could, he 'shook his head' and hid under a dirty duvet.

Officers also found a baby in a cot with a soiled cloth over its face, who they thought was dead.

They gagged as they clawed their way through waste, urine, blood, faeces and a rag that a cat had given birth on at the *property in Newbury, Berks, in July last year.

Harbour appeared before Newbury JPs yesterday and admitted wilful neglect and abandonment.

Adjourning sentencing until July 28, magistrate Michael Jackson said: 'This is a shocking case.'

The children are being cared for by a relative.
