NY Motorcyclist Protesting Helmet Laws Dies From Head Injury Updated: Sunday, 03 Jul 2011, 11:14 AM CDT Published : Sunday, 03 Jul 2011, 11:14 AM CDT ONONDAGA, N.Y. -- A motorcyclist protesting helmet laws was killed when he was thrown off his motorcycle and suffered a head injury, the Post-Standard reported late Saturday. Police said 55-year-old Philip A. Contos was not wearing a helmet when he rode with a group of bikers Saturday afternoon in Onondaga, N.Y. -- about four miles southwest of Syracuse -- as part of a helmet-laws protest organized by the group American Bikers Aimed Towards Education. At around 1:30pm ET Saturday, Contos hit the brakes on his motorcycle, skidded, lost control and was thrown over the handlebars. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. An attending physician said Contos would have likely survived the accident if he had been wearing a regulation helmet. Could have survived but in what kind of shape? Seen enough mortorcycle pics to know that the helmet doesn't always help. You want to ride? It's your choice and your freedom. Just don't expect to survive an accident. |

Sad the guy died,,, but if you wanna be technical it's the Helmet Law that killed him... if he wasn't out there having to protest an unjust law he wouldn't have had the accident. |
