A mother was killed after her baby stroller got caught in train tracks last night - but managed to save her child at the last minute by pushing her out of the way.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, faced the horrific prospect of trying to free her two-year-old daughter as a Metrolink commuter train in Southern California raged towards them.
In a final moment of heroism she managed to free her child - but did not have enough time to get herself out of the way.



The woman was trying to walk through the Riverside crossing when the stroller became stuck in the tracks, police said.
She did not stop walking even though the arms of the crossing were down.

'She didn't quite make it,' Riverside police Sergeant Dan Warren said. 'The baby's fine, but she got hit.'
Sergeant Kendall Banks added: 'The arms were down, lights were going and she tried to cross anyway and the stroller got stuck and she didn't make it.'
Sandra Castillo was walking past the scene when she spotted the child alone in her stroller.

'All I did was get the baby - get her in the side walk,' she told KTLA. 'Because I didn't want her to get hit by other cars.
'I was like, did she just randomly come out of nowhere? Did she fall off the train? But no, her mum got run over.
'She tried to take her life to save her baby'.
Passengers said the train, which was going from Oceanside to San Bernardino, stopped after the collision as investigators were called.

Joseph Avila told KCAL-TV they were told what had happened by the conductor.
'Probably about 45 minutes after what happened, he finally told us that a lady and a baby got struck,' he said.
Police and railroad officials continue to investigate the collision.
None of the 50 passengers on the train were injured.
The young girl was treated at a local hospital as a precaution and is now in the care of her grandmother.

She died for her stupidity and it almost cost the life of her child. How she didn't get killed on a road where you have to actually look for traffic is beyond me.

Kudos to her for putting her child to safety and not having a last second selfish moment. Depending on her mind state, I reckon this could of had a different headline.

Plus, was it the stroller or the baby that was stuck? Yep, it was the stroller... not the baby. Unless this was a Japanese speed train, you'd think she'd have enough time to realize the stroller needs no saving.

I realize that everyone who farts out a kid is a modern day superhero nowadays, but it's alright to knock off their invisible crowns from time to time for the sake of sanity and clear thought.
