CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A mother has been charged with aggravated child abuse after she told police she dropped her one-month-old child three times over the last month, including once dropping the baby down a flight of stairs.
Police said that Monday a one month old baby was admitted to Vanderbilt Children Hospital in Nashville with a fractured skull and ribs, and bleeding of the brain.
When Clarksville Police interviewed the baby's mother, Penselyn Loyola, 24, the woman admitted to dropping the child at least three times in the last 30 days. Loyola said she had dropped the baby down a flight of stairs, as well as twice in the shower while she was trying to bathe the baby.
Police said that Loyola never sought medical attention for the child, nor did she tell her husband of the incidents.
The baby was listed in unstable condition at Vanderbilt Children Hospital in Nashville and police said several tests are still pending.
Loyola was taken into custody by the Clarksville Police and charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect. A bond was set at $1 million.
