A desperate Cleveland area woman was forced to toss her baby son out of a second story window after her boyfriend set her on fire during an argument while she was holding the child, police said.

Cops say Kevin Ford was haggling Tiffany Lawson over rent money she supposedly owed them on Monday morning when he suddenly doused her in lighter fluid and set her ablaze while she was clutching her 18-month-old son, local television station WJW reported.

Witnesses said Lawson rushed to her second floor window and tossed him to neighbors, who had gathered below after hearing her screams.

"She has a baby hanging out the window," witness Matt Macon told the station. "She throws the baby and miraculously this woman is there to catch the child."

Cops say Lawson followed the tot out the window to escape her rampaging beau.

She managed to put herself out, and both she and the baby were rushed to St. Vincent Charity Hospital, the station said.

Lawson suffered a broken arm in the fall, and also had burns to her back and neck. The baby was said to be ok.

Ford was nabbed by police some five hours later after a city-wide manhunt, according to reports. He's expected to be charged with attempted murder.

"He deserves to get the book thrown at him, that was a heinous crime," a neighbor told WOIO television.
