Did you ever fly in a small airplane? My Grandfather was a pilot as were my uncle and a cousin. We flew many times. Never, ever did we exit the plane with the prop turning. Never did we enter the plane with the prop turning. Yes it SHOULD be common sense. But also it's common sense to shut it down so that stupid distracted people don't get torn up. What kind of a fuckup lets his passengers out with a spinning blade next to them. Besides.. on lots of small planes there really is not enough room to safely exit and enter a plane with a spinning blade. And a distracted blonde is just asking for trouble. Perhaps Ann Coulter needs to ride with this jerkoff a few times. It would surely cheer up more than a few liberals to hear of her gruesome demise.

It is so easy to be judgemental of a passenger. But above all else a pilot is much the same as a ship captain in that his first responsibility is to the safety of his passengers. Above all else. This is the reason we were never allowed to enter or exit the airplane with the prop spinning.

And there is a standard that should always be followed.

Prop Injuries
Never attempt to load or unload the airplane with
the engine running unless there are significant extenuating
circumstances. If you must allow passengers or
crew to board or otherwise approach the airplane,
be certain that they understand the areas to avoid.
Keep your hand on the mixture control and monitor
the movement of the individuals without fail. If
someone begins to walk in the direction of the spinning
prop, kill the engine immediately. Worry about
how to restart it later. Remember that passengers are
unlikely to hear your cautionary shouts over the
engine. Almost every year, there are injuries or fatalities
from someone walking into a turning prop.
