Re: Missouri Dad Tasered While Trying to Save Son from Burning Home

I would say it is his right to try and save his son. Even if they felt the fire would have been fatal to the father, tasing him seems like the worst fucking idea I have ever heard. And then cuffs and a cell? Can we stop being individuals for five seconds and be people in communities again? Can we try and imagine what other people are going through instead of being selfish cunts? Locking up a dad who just lost his son because he was "in the way"?! I hope the community holds them accountable for just how bad they fucked up. Make them stand outside Walmart with a sign that says: "I tased a dad while his son was burning to death."

i think they honestly felt they were acting in the man and his family's best interest. in all actuality, had they not acted like that, the mother of the child would have lost her son and her husband.

i understand the desire (the need) to protect one's children... it's my job... but if my wife was at risk of losing me because i was in shock and putting my life at risk for something that was, sadly, a lost cause (despite what the father says about his son breathing when he was carried out of the house, even fight fighters in gear had to step back... which means the heat was too intense and the father would have died as well) i would expect them to do the same to me.

if they had let him go in and he did die, think about the legal ramifications for the fire department.

i agree with you that we should stop being individuals and start being communities again.. but i think that's what happened in this situation. a family was about to lose two members instead of just one and rescue workers stopped that from happening.

placing him in a cell was extreme but if they couldnt control him, what else could they do?

Re: Missouri Dad Tasered While Trying to Save Son from Burning Home

They might have been acting in his best interest. I had a long discussion with a trainer at the gym who is also a firefighter. Unless it was CERTAIN the fire would be fatal they shouldn't have restrained him. But they made that call, ok. (Even though that dad will ALWAYS wonder what if.) A neutral party/witness would eventually be able to convey that idea to the family. "They saved your life; your wife would have lost both of ya'll" etc, etc. But under no circumstances should they have tased him. Thats inexcusable. Can't justify that at all in my mind. And then in a cell? A squad car wouldn't have sufficed? This just seems like a lot of aggression towards an innocent person. Tased and thrown in jail for being upset and in the way? I'm trying but I just can't give the FD the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Hey Kanda! :)

Hey Kanda! :)
i think there was definitely a better way to stop him than tazing him... like holding him down, for instance. it was excessive, i admit that

how are you today, sir? :-)
