Mississippi Teen Set on Fire While Alive After Ingesting Lighter Fluid
By Nina Golgowski New York Daily News December 10, 2014 After pausing and giving a wave, the teen walked toward whatever or whomever, caught her eye. Surveillance footage obtained by WMC Action News 5, shows the last hours of Jessica Chambers' life at her local gas station, before an assaliant poured lighter fluid down her throat and set her and her car on fire. A Mississippi teen's family says she was forced to drink lighter fluid before being burned alive, and was caught on surveillance video waving to someone in her final moments alive. The newly released surveillance video taken at a Courtland, Mississippi gas station shows 19 year old, Jessica Chambers, pausing to wave, as if being called, before walking toward a likely unseen person. The video was shot approximately 90 minutes before she was found on the side of a road, with burns covering 98% of her body. Authorities hope the video may reveal further clues into her unsolved death Saturday night, with the sick culprit yet to be caught. Jessica Chambers, 19, died after being set on fire. She was left with burns covering 98% of her body. "Some people are saying she stopped by a party after that," her father, Ben Chambers, told the Huffington Post of the time the video was shot. "We think whomever called her over to them was asking her to go to that party, because where she was found and where the party was, aren't very far apart," he said. If Chambers did go to the party, however, her father said it was a decision she likely didn't plan. Her family has said that the teen was likely attacked by someone who was in her car. They say lighter fluid was poured down her throat and nose before she was set on fire. She wasn't dressed for the occasion and had told her mother that she was only planning on cleaning her car and getting something to eat, he said. Somewhere along the way, she's believed to have been bashed in her head before the accelerant was poured down her nose and throat, her father and sister, Amanda Prince, told the Clarion-Ledger. The teen's mother has said that her daughter told her she was going to clean her car and get something to eat before heading home. Some have said that she was going to a party. The attacker is believed to have been in the car with her when it occurred, said Prince. John Champion, district attorney for Mississippi's 17th Circuit, told CNN that the teen received a call before she left her house and that investigators believe that her phone will be, "the key to everything." When she was found on the roadside, police said that she was alive long enough to give a first responder a name, one authorities have yet to release. Her father said he's been left in the dark on that possible suspect, too. "They won't tell me very much right now," he said. "I just keep wondering every time I look at someone, 'Did you do it?'" The good news is that police do say they're optimistic they'll find whoever's responsible, he said. "They promise me things are looking good — they got folks going in any different directions — so we hope to know something before the day is over," he said Wednesday. Disturbing and repulsive! It's for crimes such as this that I'm pro death penalty. I just wish we could fast track cases such as this, when there's no doubt about guilt. And screw lethal injection, hang the sob.
