Mississippi K-9 Dies After Officer Forgets Him in Car; Activists Furious

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nati...icle-1.1336122

A Mississippi police dog died after he was accidentally locked in a patrol car overnight.
Steve Verret completely forgot he'd left Napo, a 3-year-old Belgian Malnois, in his vehicle.

He was horrified to find his lifeless body the following day.
Animal rights activists are now calling for the Perry County officer, who has not been disciplined but just re-assigned to other duties, to be fired.

"He KILLED a fellow police officer! Internal affairs should be called in," said one angry animal lover.
Another told local TV station WLOX13 that Verret should be "fired and charged with animal cruelty."
Napo — bought by the force 18 months ago after local businesses donated $10,000 — died from either heat exhaustion or a heart attack, said Sheriff Jimmy Dale Smith.
The tragic incident happened three weeks ago but only became public after WLOX13 was tipped off.

Not the first time this happened. Fuckin idiot. A cop killed a dog last year when he went in to a pub to eat and left the windows up on the poor dog. So how does it work? He killed a police dog. Had I done the same they'd charge me accordingly. I'd be in deep shit

How in the fuck do you forget you left something so big in your car? I understand some keys and a phone but a dog? Should be charged with animal neglect/animal abuse.

My dogs get concerned when I'm just in the bathroom. They sit outside the door and sometimes paw at it. I can't imagine what this poor dog was feeling.

My dogs go everywhere with me and I make sure I know exactly where they are around my house. Sad that it could of been prevented.

It's a fucking dog, a animal, something that eats its own shit and would gnaw your leg off if it was hungry. Sure he made a mistake but c'mon it's not something to lose sleep over. I mean I have compassion for animals but some people just take it to far.

Re: Mississippi K-9 Dies After Officer Forgets Him in Car; Activists Furious

Is it just me or does the use of "K-9" instead of "canine" or even "dog" seem really retarded?

It didn't seem to stupid as a movie title or certainly as the Doctor's robotic dog but in this case it just reminds me of prepubescent children writing "kewl" or something equally ludicrous.

Sorry. I just copied the headline. I don't know if that's what the police call the dogs or if the reporter was trying to be creative.
