A Migrant went on a rampage inside a string of Christian churches smashing up priceless religious statues and artwork.

A Ghanian man was arrested in Rome after a crime spree over several days, where he attacked four places of worship.

The 39-year-old vandalised artefacts dating back to the ninth century in the Basilica of Santa Prassede, and other pieces which are more than 300 years old.

The remaining churches on the hit-list included San Martino ai Monti, the Basilicas of San Giovanni de' Fiorentini and the San Vitale.

Police were called around 7.30pm last week by the distraught parish priest of San Martino ai Monti, who reported a man had damaged a statue of the Madonna and baby Jesus.

Later that same evening, the parish priest of the Basilica of Santa Prassede also phoned the police to report a man had been in that church and proceeded to vandalise two statues.

The sculptures of Saint Anthony of Padua and the other of Saint Prassede were attacked.

The culprit managed to escape but was finally arrested in the centre of Rome.
