That CFL light bulb in the tunnel was a nice touch.

Re: Mexican Drug Lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman Escapes Prison for Second Time

Escaped Mexican kingpin Joaquin Guzman enjoyed a beer and relaxed in the cockpit of a plane in photos purportedly leaked by El Chapo’s son following the crime boss’ daring prison break.

The taunting pics, posted online came just 2 days after Guzman’s escape from his cell in a maximum security Mexican prison.

The photos, which haven’t been verified, would be the first of the mastermind since his escape.

He appeared at ease, casually gripping a bottled brew next to a couple of women in one image and chatting with a pilot in the other.

Federal drug agents refused to comment on the pictures, but at least one law enforcement expert suspects the images could be part of a hoax.

“I don't think (his son) would leak those photos because that could be used to try and apprehend Chapo, and that would be circumventing his planned escape,” former Drug Enforcement Agent Mike Vigil told.

The Mexican government is offering a $3.8 million reward for information leading to his capture.

The nation's interior minister also announced that he fired the prison's director after the great escape, CNN reported.

The drug kingpin allegedly traded Twitter threats with tough-talking presidential hopeful Donald Trump as he evaded law enforcement for a second day.

Re: Mexican Drug Lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman Escapes Prison for Second Time

Over a dozen former high-ranking officials in Mexico have been arrested in connection with the escape of drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" ("Shorty") Guzman, Mexico’s Attorney General’s office informs.

The 13 arrested include Mexico’s former National Coordinator of Federal Social Rehabilitation Centers Celina Oseguera Parra and former Technical Director of the Altiplano prison where Guzman was held, the authorities said as cited by the El Debate newspaper yesterday.

Oseguera is the most senior official arrested so far in connection with Guzman’s escape.

El Chapo Guzman was jailed at the Altiplano maximum security prison in Mexico in February 2014. On July 11, El Chapo escaped using an underground tunnel that led from under his cell shower to a house construction site about 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) away.

Mexican Attorney General Arely Gomez has said that his country is ready to pay 60 million Mexican pesos (almost $4 million) for information on Guzman’s current whereabouts.

Earlier this month, a photograph presumably showing Guzman in Costa Rica circulated across social media. The image was released by a Twitter account linked to Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, El Chapo’s son, and is dated August 26 with the pinned Twitter location saying Costa Rica.

The photograph shows Alfredo sitting at a table with two other men, one of whom resembles El Chapo, although it is difficult to say, because the face is partially obscured by overlaid images.
El Chapo’s most recent escape is not the first one.

In 2001, he escaped from a maximum security prison in Mexico’s Jalisco state, using a laundry cart.

Guzman is the chief of the Sinaloa drug cartel, named after the Mexican state of Sinaloa where it was formed. The criminal organization smuggles cocaine from Colombia through Mexico to the United States.

The cartel is also involved in the production and distribution of Mexican marijuana, heroin and other drugs in North America and Europe. It is responsible for a major portion of drugs sold in the streets of the United States.

Re: Mexican Drug Lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman Escapes Prison for Second Time

Fugitive drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is believed to be suffering from injuries to his leg and face as he continues to evade Mexican authorities.

Mexican Marines zeroed in last week on the Sinaloa cartel kingpin after U.S. drug agents intercepted cell phone signals suggesting "El Chapo" was hiding at a ranch near Cosala in the rugged Sierra Madre mountains in western Mexico, according to three sources with knowledge of the operation.

Marines raided the ranch in helicopters, but were forced to turn back after taking fire from suspected Guzman security forces. The Marines later entered the camp on foot and discovered cell phones, medication and two-way radios, but Guzman and his accomplices are believed to have fled on ATVs.

Authorities gave chase and believed to have encircled the fugitive within a two-mile radius. But a week and a half after the raid, officials are losing hope that Guzman's capture is imminent.

Re: Mexican Drug Lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman Escapes Prison for Second Time

Mexico captured El Chapo. This is not a really big update as this is all they had on CNN for now.

SOURCE

Drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has been captured, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto announced Friday via Twitter.

"Mission Accomplished," the President wrote. "We have him."

They put him back in the same prison he escaped from. Either a great idea or really dumb.
