Re: 'Mental' Costumes: Asda And Tesco Apologise

millions of people suffer from debilitating mental illnesses. there is still a major stigma attached to it, and costumes like this do nothing but further perpetuate negative stereotypes. would it be ok to make offensive costumes depicting disfigured veterans? how about black people or people with AIDS? it is never ok to turn something as deadly as mental illness into a joke. especially not when people are already being discriminated against, belittled and portrayed as damaged because of them. the people have spoken and the consensus is that this is offensive.

anybody worth their weight in cat shit can see why things like this are problematic. that being said, it must be nice to live in a world where nothing touches you, and where you don't have experience being discriminated against for your entire life based on something that was never your fault. your desire for an OMG EDGY costume will never be more important than the rights of the mentally ill to be treated with respect and dignity. in short, get the fuck over it.
I couldn't agree more.

I also think they should pull any costumes labeled as "Princess" or "Queen" as not to offend homosexuals... if it prevents one feeler from becoming hurt it is worth it.

Re: 'Mental' Costumes: Asda And Tesco Apologise

You're right. The world has gone fucking mental. Let's hope Asda replace it with something tasteful like a cancer patient costume.
I wanted to be a cancerous lung in high school

Perhaps if they changed the name to, "Psycho Killer," everyone would be happy!

How popular are horror films

" I wanted to be a cancerous lung in high school..."
Lmfao. That's the spirit. I'm kinda hoping you meant in some kind of costume party / school drama production... Not just sat in class being eaten away by malignant tumours whilst studying Tom Sawyer. Because that would be more weird than I gave you credit for.

You said it yourself, get the fuck over it....

Someone is going to wear a costume like that one night out of the year and get hammered at a party and then throw it away.

Re: 'Mental' Costumes: Asda And Tesco Apologise

Will our society stop being a bunch of pussy's? Since when the fuck are those offensive?
Those costumes have been out for decades and people never complained before. Our society is becoming too sensitive(bunch of pussies as you put it)...worrying about every little thing, arguing about nothing. It's getting ridiculous; pretty soon we won't be allowed to have anything of color because people will cry and think that it offends homosexuals and blacks.
