Mass Shooting at School in Turkey Leaves 16 Injured, and Shooter Dead
Turkey, An armed attack was carried out yesterday morning in the morning hours at Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School located in Siverek district of Şanlıurfa province, by Ömer Ket, 19, who was identified as a former student of the school. According to initial determinations in the attack, 10 students, 4 teachers, 1 police officer, and 1 cafeteria operator were injured, and the injured have been taken to Siverek State Hospital. The individual who carried out the attack with a shotgun committed suicide with the same weapon following the incident, although others say he was neutralised by a security guard. A comprehensive investigation has been initiated by security units regarding the incident. Governor Hasan Şıldak of Şanlıurfa confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and stated that the attacker had no prior criminal record. The student shooter was expelled during his 9th-grade year. Although he remained in the "open education" system, investigators believe he harbored deep resentment toward the school administration or specific individuals related to his expulsion. Just days before the attack, Ket reportedly posted cryptic and threatening messages on his social media accounts. These posts hinted at an upcoming "day of reckoning" or a "big event" at the school, suggesting the attack was premeditated rather than a spontaneous act of rage. According to witness accounts from students like Ömer Furkan Sayar, the shooter did not seem to be looking for a specific person. Once he entered the building, he opened fire indiscriminately in the hallways and classrooms. This "random" nature suggests his motive was to cause general terror and mass casualties as an act of revenge against the institution as a whole. Local reports indicate that police are looking into his mental health history. Neighbors and acquaintances described him as having become increasingly "isolated" and "withdrawn" in the months leading up to the shooting. |

Everyone was looking the wrong way down the hall. Shooter could have gotten a much higher score if they were quicker.

When I joined in like 2012 I paid good money. Chris said I'd never have to pay again. He promised me. Anyways I hate seeing awkward teens try to avoid getting shot, it's depressing. I was like 14 during Columbine. |

Re: Mass Shooting at School in Turkey Leaves 16 Injured, and Shooter Dead
The Şanlıurfa Governor's Office suspended four local officials pending an investigation into security negligence. This included two district police chiefs and two district education directors. Turkish police launched a widespread crackdown against copycat threats and online disinformation. Over 83 people were arrested, and hundreds more were detained nationwide for making revenge threats or glorifying Ket's actions online. The Directorate of Communications and Turkish law enforcement restricted access to nearly 1,000 social media accounts and shut down dozens of Telegram groups spreading violent content related to the shooting. Due to intense local anger and security concerns, Ömer Ket's body was transferred out of Siverek and quietly buried at night in a cemetery in Şanlıurfa under police escort. :Local authorities moved Ket's family out of the Siverek district and placed them under state protection to shield them from retaliatory public backlash. |
