SULPHUR SPRINGS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - A capital murder suspect and convicted drug offender who escaped from a jail in East Texas have spent a rainy night on the run. The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office said that 45-year-old Brian Allen Tucker and 40-year-old John Marlin King remain at large Wednesday morning.


The air and ground search for the men, which ended late Tuesday night, resumed at dawn as more rain fell in the area.

The inmates fled the jail in Sulphur Springs on Tuesday morning by prying a chain off of the corner of a gate in the jail’s recreation yard, according to Sheriff Butch Adams. Sulphur Springs is about 75 miles northeast of Dallas.

Tucker, of Sulphur Springs, faces trial in the 2011 slaying of Bobby Riley of Mahoney. Riley was strangled with a shoelace. “I want him to die,” said Riley’s ex-wife, Sherry Marshall, who is set to testify against him during the trial. “All I got to say is, if you want me, come and get me, because I’m ready.”

King, of Cumby, pleaded guilty last month to drug possession as a habitual offender and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Authorities said that the two men are dangerous, but it is unlikely that they are armed. However, their prison jumpsuits were discarded along a set of railroad tracks about 100 yards from the jail.

Deputies said that thermal imaging technology was being used to hunt the inmates, and had revealed two heat sources about three miles away from the jail. But a few hours later, those heat sources disappeared without the inmates being found.

Tucker is described as a white male, standing 5 feet 7 inches and weighing 171 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes and has a number of tattoos. Although he has hair in the above photo, jail officials said that Tucker is now bald with the words “Drop Dead” tattooed on the back of his head.

King is a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 165 pounds with black hair and hazel eyes.

40 years for "habitual drug possession"? There's money well spent. Texas has some really fucked up laws, I'm scared if I went there I might go to prison for 20 if I jaywalked.

Yea habitual isn't needed for everything especially on drugs. Hurting ppl, animals or property is another story. These guys got nothing to lose now

jesus christ, 40 years for drug possesion? . was he dealing drugs or was he just caught in possesion of drugs? anyone know what drugs they were?

I think we have to review the case - or at least hope this isnt the case but... Im thinking maybe he was given this as a lesser sentence to a combination of things he did There might be several assaults and thefts they stem back to drug use so his attorney talked them into the drug use charge instead of adding them all on top of each other just a thought

If taking the charge of drug possession is less, and its still 40 years.....holy shit.
