Man Shot Dead by Police After Stabbing a Doctor

The woman at the centre of a horrific domestic attack remained 'extremely calm' after she was stabbed 11 times and doused with petrol by her ex-boyfriend she met on Tinder.

Angela Jay was released from hospital just before midday on Saturday after managing to stumble to her neighbour's house for help in Port Macquarie, on the NSW mid-north coast.

One neighbour told Daily Mail Australia the 28-year-old young doctor remained calm as she explained to the men what needed to be done to stop her from bleeding out.

'I heard a scream and initially thought someone had hurt themselves, I checked my family and then went outside,' the neighbour recounted.

He said even when he saw stab wounds on her arms and legs it 'took a while to click'.

'She was over at the [other] neighbours when I got there... even when I saw the bleeding I still didn't register what had happened.'

Dr Jay's neighbour recalled seeing stab wounds on her arms and one on her leg with her attacker, Paul Lambert, nowhere to be seen.

'He was either gone or hiding by the time we were helping her,' the neighbour told Daily Mail Australia.

'She was extremely calm the whole time - we all kept each other calm ... When she started dozing off I just kept her talking. Asking her mundane questions.'

Dr Jay stumbled up her steep driveway where on Saturday a trail of blood was left behind - the only sign of the horror that took place in the quiet suburban home.

The 28-year-old still has not returned home and she is believed to be in the care of close friends and family in the area.

Lambert led police on a wild chase 150 kilometres north up Pacific Highway before his rental car was stopped and he was shot dead while charging at officers with a knife.

Daily Mail Australia revealed Lambert was kicked out of the U.S. just 18 months ago for stalking another woman.

Lambert - then going by his birth name Paul Michael Scales - was arrested in Orlando, Florida, on May 11, 2015, for breaching a restraining order against another woman he was obsessed with.

The 36-year-old flew to see the woman for two weeks last February and then in March for two months, after they met online in 2014, an old friend of Lambert's told Daily Mail Australia.

'It was very secretive. As in, he wanted to just go over there and see what happened, not make a big deal of it,' he said.

It was the same deal as this time, he hid in her house – that's why when we saw it on the news last night we were so shocked,' a former colleague at his last job as a finance insurance manager told DMA.

Multiple colleagues said Lambert was escorted back to Australia by two U.S. federal marshals who accompanied him on the flight.

Former colleagues said the mystery woman was the reason Lambert left his wife just a couple of weeks after they married in late 2014, despite consulting builders and getting quotes for building a house together.

The two visits to Orlando came either side of Lambert being sacked from his job in Brisbane in March 2015 after the business owner grew tired of a pattern of petty embezzlement.

Every time he got caught he'd say, "oh I forgot to take that out of my pocket, just take it out of my next pay'. It was probably $1,000 over a year,' former workmates said.

'The funny thing was he had plenty of money so I think it was just an ego trip. Everyone he's ever sold to should probably check their paperwork.'

They said he lived extremely frugally despite his high salary and success at work, and that he claimed after he was sacked he had more than $150,000 saved up.

'He was fanatical about saving money, he drove a beat-up 2000-model Camry or something, and didn't rent a fancy place,' they said.

His former workmates said Lambert had struggled with mental illness, and described him as 'not right in the head' and said he told them he had been 'hearing voices'.

'When he was sacked he wrote an email to everyone apologising and saying he was trying to get help,' they said.

'He was so polished at work, it was only when you saw him regularly that you could see through it.

He was always someone who really thought things through from every angle. He was non-stop thinking up plans and schemes, always thinking 10 steps ahead. He was pretty intelligent but always a bit weird.

'He'd just rant about a topic and turn it inside out, like he'd been trapped in a room thinking about it.

'He was professional at work and made us lots of money, but in private he struggled to relate to people and make true friends.'

The colleagues said he was a big fan of the Denver Broncos NFL team and one time they went to a Brisbane Broncos NRL game and he put on an American accent the entire night.

Lambert's old friend said he changed his last name from Scales to Lambert in July 2015 a year before he moved to Sydney to 'make a fresh start'. He also made a new Facebook page, the third he had used in his life.

'He only said that he reverted to his mother's maiden name and the new profile was basically to start over with only 'important people',' the old friend said.

It is understood that the name change was to distance himself from his arrest and deportation in the U.S.

The old friend said Lambert often got invested too quickly in his frequent new loves and the obsession with Dr Jay was not surprising.

'With the victim of his attack, I actually warned him about getting too attached too quickly, but he ignored that. He goes 'all in' very quickly with everything he does,' he said.

'Paul was always a really good mate, looked out for everyone. He always had some personal demons to sort out but seemed to be getting on top of things. It's very sad.'

Lambert stalked Dr Jay, for days and set an ambush by getting inside her home and waiting for her to get home from work - just two months after they met on dating app Tinder.

He then led police on a wild car chase up Pacific Highway before his rental car was stopped with tyre spikes and he was shot dead while charging officers with a knife.

Lambert's Sydney housemate Elisa Patten said on Friday police had shown up at the home looking for him two-days-ago and she 'knew something was wrong'.

'I knew he had a girlfriend Angela who was pretty, but I only met her briefly,' she told the Daily Telegraoh.

'He was excited he had met someone and said that he really liked her.'

The receptionist told 7 News she was shocked Lambert had committed such a violent act.

'He was a very nice guy, he's quiet, we don't see much of him at all. This is completely a shock,' she said.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal Lambert was 'amped up' when he arrived in the coastal town of Port Macquarie, last Sunday, after flying in from Sydney, 390 kilometres to the south.

Lambert told his rental car dealer he did not want to end his relationship with Dr Jay on 'a bad note', the dealer said.

On Thursday, Lambert waited at Dr Jay's home for her to finish her shift before launching his attack at around 6.30pm, repeatedly stabbing her and dousing her in petrol.

Dr Jay stumbled to a neighbour's house and talked him through the first aid that saved her life, until paramedics arrived.

Lambert fled the scene and was shot dead by police hours later near Coffs Harbour, about 150 kilometres further north.
