Man Drives Into Hollywood Crowd.
LA nightclub crowd crash, which left 30 injured, may have been intentional, police say At least 23 others are said to have been hurt after the incident on Santa Monica Boulevard in LA's East Hollywood neighbourhood. A crash outside a Los Angeles nightclub which left 30 people injured may have been intentional, according to police. Seven people are said to be in a critical condition, while at least 23 others were injured, after a car drove into a crowd outside the nightclub. The fire department's Adam Van Gerpen told Sky's US partner, NBC News, that the car struck a taco cart before hitting people outside a nightclub at around 2am. Pictures from Santa Monica Boulevard, in East Hollywood, show a damaged grey Nissan Versa that had mounted the pavement. According to NBC News, cameras in the area are still being canvassed, but the incident appears to have been intentional, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The force said officers "found the driver being assaulted by bystanders and determined he had sustained a gunshot wound". The wound was sustained after the collision, according to police. The LAPD say the person suspected of inflicting the gunshot wound - a man described by police as a 5ft 9in, bald, Hispanic, and possibly carrying a silver revolver - fled on foot. Sergeant Travis Ward said the driver had been taken to hospital for surgery, and it was currently unclear if he was intoxicated. |

Re: Man Drives Into Hollywood Crowd.
29-year-old Fernando Ramirez was ejected from the club’s reggae/hip-hop event for intoxication and causing an altercation before choosing to crash into those waiting for valet parking or admission and then into patrons in line at a nearby roadside hot dog cart. The vendor whose food stand was crushed, stopping the car, stated it saved her life. The LAFD deployed 124 firefighters and assisted in transporting 23 victims to hospitals, with 7 assessed with significant injuries on-site refusing medical transport. There are 5 critical injuries, around 8-10 moderate injuries, and 10-15 categorized as fair. The driver faces serious charges, such as attempted murder, with the LAPD stating he deliberately made a U-turn to target the crowd, and the shooter remains at large, last seen heading west. |

Re: Man Drives Into Hollywood Crowd.
Sucks. Can't do anything anymore without wondering if you're gonna be off'd by either an ideological or egotistical maniac. This is gonna be fuel for the immigration issue. Hopefully not to the same extent, but it reminds me of the story that led to kristallnacht in the 30's. Jewish boy in France killed a nazi official. Nazis used it to justify other things, yadayadayada. The way that random acts of violence can be spun, even when they have nothing to do with an issue, is incredible. The power of propaganda on people is crazy. |

Re: Man Drives Into Hollywood Crowd.
Police say driver shot, attacked by crowd in L.A. nightclub, car ramming had a criminal history. Fernando Ramirez, 29, was out on parole as police continue search for gunman. A man suspected of driving his car into a crowd waiting to get inside a nightclub in Los Angeles, injuring 36 people, has a criminal history that includes a conviction for felony battery, officials said Sunday. The driver, identified by police as Fernando Ramirez, 29, was attacked by bystanders after the crash early Saturday in east Hollywood and paramedics later found that he had been shot. Police were still searching for the suspected shooter, described as a man with a goatee in a blue Dodgers jacket. Ramirez, of San Clemente, Calif., is recovering and was expected to face a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon. He could not be reached for comment, and it wasn't known if he had an attorney. Police Capt. Ben Fernandes told KNBC-TV on Sunday that Ramirez was sentenced in 2020 for attacking a man outside of a Whole Foods grocery store in June 2019. He was on parole at the time of Saturday's crash, but it's unclear whether it was in connection with the 2019 attack or another case. Ramirez has had at least 11 criminal cases ranging from misdemeanours to felonies, KNBC reported. In January 2022, he was charged with felony domestic battery and entered a not guilty plea. That case remains open. |

Re: Man Drives Into Hollywood Crowd.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles police have released a photo of the man accused of shooting him during the chaotic moments after the ramming. He's described as a 5'6", 150 to 170 lbs, bald Hispanic man. He was last seen wearing a blue Dodgers jacket and a light blue jersey with the number five, and blue jeans. LAPD says he has gauges in both ears and a goatee. Video from after the violent crash shows bystanders pulling the driver from his Nissan Versa, punching and kicking him. Then, police say the wanted man came from across the street and shot the suspect in the butt. The shooter fled the scene and remains at large. |

Re: Man Drives Into Hollywood Crowd.
A man is in custody on attempted murder for allegedly shooting a driver who plowed his car through a crowd in Los Angeles last month, police announced Monday. The arrest comes more than two weeks after what police called the "chaotic" incident outside the music venue The Vermont in East Hollywood. Prosecutors allege the driver intentionally drove his vehicle onto a sidewalk and into the crowd gathered outside the club around 2 a.m. local time on July 19, injuring 37 people. When the vehicle became disabled, bystanders in the crowd dragged the driver outside the car and began to physically assault him, according to police. At some point during the altercation, police said a man shot the driver once in the lower back then fled the scene on foot. The shooting suspect -- Efrain Villalobos, of Lawndale -- was arrested on Sunday in the Redondo Beach area, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. He was booked for attempted murder and is being held without bail, police said Monday. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration, police said. The identity of the shooting suspect was unknown in the wake of the incident, with authorities releasing images of the alleged gunman while attempting to identify him. The LAPD identified Villalobos as the suspect on Friday while warning that he should be considered armed and dangerous. The alleged driver, Fernando Ramirez, was charged with 37 counts of attempted murder and 37 counts of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the car plowing. The 37 counts represent the 37 victims in the incident, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. Among the victims, eight suffered "great bodily injury," such as serious fractures and lacerations, according to Hochman. Ramirez remains in jail on more than $37 million bail, with an arraignment scheduled for Sept. 4. To be continued....... |
