A man collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack after his dog was hit by a car.
The 73-year-old fell to the ground after his Airedale terrier ran across a road and was struck by the vehicle in Beverley, Yorkshire.
He was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary but died before arriving.
The incident, shortly after 11am on Friday, occurred near the Killinwoldgraves roundabout on York Road.
A witness said yesterday: ‘The terrier, which was on a lead, ran across the road after another dog.
'The dog pulled the man over and was then hit.
‘I rushed out to him to help him up.
'He wanted a vet so I went to get one.’
Edward Husband, 21, a nearby resident, said: 'I heard the impact.
'There were a lot of police cars, and dog walkers rushed to help.'
Shortly afterwards, the pensioner – who has not been named – began complaining of chest pains.
The dog was put down.

The love for a dog is like the love for another human being. I feel so bad for him, but at least he doesn't have to suffer with the loss of his dog.
