Drug-Binge Aussie Leaps From Amsterdam Hotel, Crippling Man He Lands On Updated: Thursday, 09 Jun 2011, 11:45 AM CDT Published : Thursday, 09 Jun 2011, 11:45 AM CDT (NewsCore) - An Australian man was jailed for three months Thursday for leaping from an Amsterdam hotel window while high on cannabis and landing on a tourist, leaving him crippled for life. The defendant had smoked so much of the drug that he suffered hallucinations and deliberately threw himself from the building's third floor, De Telegraaf reported. He landed on a passing Brazilian tourist, breaking the victim's back and leaving him confined to a wheelchair for life, a court in the Dutch capital heard. Lawyers for the 29-year-old Australian national, referred to as Abdallah O., argued his actions in July of last year were the result of psychosis brought on by cannabis, which can be legally bought and smoked in the city's coffee shops by anyone over the age of 18. The court accepted that Abdallah O. had been under the influence of drugs but jailed him for six months, with a further three months probation. He was also ordered to pay €120,000 ($174,000) in compensation to his victim, De Telegraaf said. Read more: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpps/new...#ixzz1OnZSjTU1 |
