31 October 2011, Glasgow, Scotland.
A man who almost severed another man's hand during a unprovoked brutal machete attack has been jailed for 12 years.
Nicholas Henry and an unknown accomplice attacked Allan Scott in a shop in Glenhove Road, Cumbernauld, in North Lanarkshire on January 20.
A jury watched CCTV footage of a defenceless Mr Scott being set upon with the weapon and a wooden pole.
Henry denied being part of the assault during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow. But the 34-year-old was convicted by a majority verdict of attempted murder.
In court it emerged Henry was previously jailed for six years in 2000 for assault and robbery.
Judge Sean Murphy QC called the offence "extremely serious".
Prosecutors told the jury that the victim was subjected to a "prolonged and brutal" ordeal and that he "did not fight back". No motive was revealed for the attack.
