High mileage usually depreciates the value of a car but one pensioner who has driven more than 3million miles in his 1966 Volvo has made it priceless.

Irv Gordon broke the record for the most distance driven in a car using his cherry-red P1800 coupe – and it only took him 47 years.

‘Everyone asks, what’s next?,’ said the 74-year-old.

‘Well, I’ll keep driving my Volvo P1800 to auto shows and taking trips across the country.

‘Not much will change. But whether I drive four million miles is more up to me than it is the car.

‘The car may be able to take it, but I’m not so sure about me.’

The veteran, from Long Island, New York, drove an average of 63,829 miles each year to achieve the feat, which is around five times the length of the Great Wall of China.

The record-breaking car will be on display at a Volvo event in Stratton Mountain, Vermont, in October, according to car magazine Hemmings.

i know of new cars that need a new engine after just 80,000 miles.
they don't build them like back than anymore. because they want to sell new cars and not want people to have cars for 20 or 45 years.
