Re: Is Maddie In The US?
The fund had a clause allowing for financial assistance for the family, and Kate and Gerry McCann used it for living expenses as they were on unpaid leave from their jobs. The payments were made earlier in 2007. The McCanns stopped using the fund for personal expenses after Portuguese authorities declared them formal suspects in the case. ================================ Christian Brückner is a German man who has been named by German authorities as the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. He was living in the Algarve region of Portugal, where Madeleine vanished, between 1995 and 2007. They stated they have circumstantial evidence against him, which includes his mobile phone being logged in the area at the time of the disappearance and witness testimonies. Brückner's former associate, Helge Busching, has claimed that Brückner confessed to him about the kidnapping, saying she "wasn't screaming. Brückner, who has a criminal history including convictions for child sex offenses, drug trafficking, burglary, and petty theft, has consistently denied any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance. He was released from a German prison today after serving a seven-year sentence for the 2005 rape of a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz, the same place where the McCanns celebrated their holiday. He had also been cleared by a German court of several unrelated sexual offenses in October of the previous year. Despite his release, Brückner remains a suspect in the investigations by British and German authorities. The Metropolitan Police in the UK had requested an interview with him, but he refused. His lawyer has stated that if there were sufficient evidence, charges would have been filed long ago. As part of his release conditions, he is required to wear an electronic tag, report regularly to probation services, and give up his passport. |
