Inside the First Church of Cannabis

The First Church of Cannabis — an "unintended consequence" of Indiana's new Religious Freedom Restoration law — will hold its initial ceremony on July 1 at 12:01 p.m., moments after RFRA goes into effect. The service's leader, Bill Levin, says worship will open with 35 minutes of celebration. Congregants will be honored for their contributions to the Church's seven directives: live, learn, love, laugh, create, grow and teach.

After the celebration and church announcements, worshippers will read the Church's Commandments — the "Deity Dozen" — and then "sanctify" the space. Consumption of the church's sacraments will be followed by 30 minutes of fellowship, then congregants will be asked to exit the church — "It's not a party, it's a religious service," says Levin.

I don't see an issue with it. Most churches are not against substances, unless it becomes excessive and it alters your ability to worship, or act as a Christian.

Unless you're a baptist, or like minded denominations that bastardize the bible.

there are other 'weed based religions' actually. i have nothing against them....i just moved past that kind of thing, personally. i think weed can help a lot in regards to spirituality (and when i say that, i mean 'spirituality' in this sense....an atheistic one) but when it's used as the only means to have a spiritual experience or when consuming it is considered 'spiritual' in nature, i think the point of spirituality is lost.

to me....this is silly.

i wouldnt be a part of it. i love weed...i have a great respect for spirituality.....in this context, i feel like both are being treated with disrespect or, at least, are being used in (what i would consider) an incorrect manner.

with that said...the church should be considered a real religion and they should be left alone just like other churches (really, i would like all churches to lose their tax exempt status....so this church doesnt really help my goals at all).

A brief synopsis. Weed isn't for me because of not being able to enjoy it. Religion isn't for me because it's moronic. Pot Vs alcohol? I would much rather talk to a hungry mellow high person talking shit than a belligerent drunken aggressive arsehole.

Pot wins....it's just not for me.
