Live Stream of Crazy Rioting in Ukraine
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/euromajdan/pop-out Death toll at Three so far.... I havent been following this but have been watching this riot for a few hours now. The Ukrainians are protesting over new laws made by their government. Here's a timeline I just found..... http://rt.com/news/kiev-protest-clashes-updates-862/ In the stream, riot police are in the upper right corner of the screen behind the wall of burning tires with shields. Most of the other people you see are the angry Ukrainians. I'm sure someone will have better info but today people protesting against the new laws got this eerie text from government officials "Dear subscriber, you are registered as a participant in a mass disturbance.” which just made them even more angry and I believe escalated this... More info http://motherboard.vice.com/en_ca/bl...sage-ever-sent From Reddit ELI5: "Ukraine is balanced precariously between remaining a close partner of Russia, or joining the EU. The government want to remain friends with Russia. Russia wants another ally, and the Ukrainian government are being given deals like this as what's commonly seen as a "reward" for staying loyal to Putin. It helps since the country is in financial difficulty and close to defaulting. A significant number of people in Ukraine, however, don't care about that and want to move towards the EU, in the hopes of having higher standards of living and better trade with, and access to, the western world. The government is completely shutting out public opinion on this matter. The conflict has been escalating until a few days ago, when the government decided to say fuck it to civil liberties and put in place some rather heavy-handed laws, making it jailable offences to blockade public buildings, wear masks or helmets at demonstrations, erect unauthorised tents in public areas, and even made it arrestable to "slander a government official." So now people are going crazy with riots over being ignored by an elected government, and violently or legally repressed by their rushed new laws." ![]() ![]() For those with family in the Ukraine, I hope they stay safe and get the peace they need. |

Re: Live Stream of Crazy Rioting in Ukraine
What started the mess was Yanukovich’s EU U-turn, he walked away from the pact offered by the EU; many Ukraininas believe that he betrayed Ukraine's national interests. On December 1st there were already 350,000 people protesting on the streets; honestly, I find it surprising that nothing worse has happened yet, and the risk of a civil war is rising and rising as the country is divided. Stay strong, people |
