Truck driver shot after driving vehicle into crowd, leaving at least four soldiers dead and several others injured.

At least four Israeli soldiers have been killed and several others wounded after a truck rammed into pedestrians in Jerusalem, police and the ambulance service said, calling it a deliberate attack.

Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith, reporting from Jerusalem, said the driver of the truck has been shot, following the incident on Sunday.

Our correspondent said that at least 10 soldiers were trapped under the truck, and later rescued, with three of them in critical condition.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said two of victims were seriously injured.

An image posted on social media showed a white truck with several bullet holes on its windshield.

"It is a terrorist attack, a ramming attack," a police spokeswoman said on Israel Radio, which reported that bodies were "strewn on the street".

The suspected attacker has been named by Times of Israel and others as Fadi al-Qanbar, a 28-year-old from the Palestinian Jabel Mukaber area of Jerusalem.
