Brooker’s barrister Sarah Elliott QC said her client had turned her life around after giving birth to a baby in September last year.
“Everybody comes out of these events as losers,” Ms Elliot said.
“Since her baby’s birth, Rhiannon Brooker has been facing the consequences of events set in train long before she was a mother and before the huge change that motherhood has brought to her.”
She argued Brooker is not the person she was before September 2013.
“The birth has profoundly changed her as an individual.
“The real punishment Miss Brooker got is obvious in this case — it is being separated from her nine-month-old child. It is no exaggeration to say that every single day in prison will be agony for her as a result of that.”
