I have first hand knowledge of this case that I can't comment on, but please trust me when I say the LA Unified School District got a real deal with only $139 million. Estimates were as high as $400 million if it had gone to court...of course it would have taken years and years to adjudicate and appeal. In this case, the victims were poor and wanted their money right now. Too bad.

Oh the cookies are just the tip of the iceberg in this case. Remember that this is only one specific small group of defendants they're going to need to compensate. This whole caper is expected to cost LAUSD over $600 to $800 million before it's over...if they're lucky and settle out of court. If they go to court with this case double the damages. The LAUSD screwed this up over a period of decades and they're going to pay and pay dearly...but, unfortunately so are the taxpayers. School districts need to learn to react to idiots like this pervert faster and more decisively and vet/screen their folks far better than they have been.
