Re: Kobe Bryant Dies in Helicopter Crash

Surely the vast ramp-up in speed right at the very end of the flight indicated it fell from the sky. This wouldn't have happened if it had crashed due to poor visibility?
His flight speed was way too fast for any conditions. Though entirely my own conjecture, he was supposed to/considering landing at/near Van Nuys who was supposed to be helping him through airspace. When he is still in contact, he asks for assistance.

His only onboard information apparently came from an iPad? Which is... insane, to begin with, but to do it in heavy fog?

Conjecture would be he was told to just get to the game and step on it. After asking for assistance, he attempts to turn towards the Academy, has a dramatic rise going OVER one ridge (according to a few others that could actually see it, one being a pilot nearby) which is why he climbed up over 2k feet, but he then came back to his prior height because he couldn't see. Which, if you've just missed one mountain, seems like a pretty stupid call for the pilot. There's another attempt at a climb right before impact, but they are going - well, what seems to me and from what I've read of other heli pilots - entirely too fast for conditions. There's no reason to be doing 150 knots blind in a Sikorsky.

Re: Kobe Bryant Dies in Helicopter Crash

Either Bryant pressured the pilot to fly or the pilot played the hero and was out to impress..
Either way.. They were only travelling seventeen miles. They could have gone by road
The crash site was approximately 17 miles from the destination. I believe they had already traveled some 55 miles or so.

Re: Kobe Bryant Dies in Helicopter Crash

Waiting for someone to find some pics from the crash shortly after it happened. Before first responders showed. Below is the transcript from LAX. The audio feed comes on in a few min. Note the looping he does when he was waiting for clearance. He was hovering for 15 min in the fog before he was given the ok to proceed then, it was with assistance. N72EX is the helicopter that crashed with Kobe. Note that at this time of the morning all LA police Were not permitted to fly due to fog.

I kind of doubt there’s any pics or footage of it before first responders got there unfortunately. I’m sure nothing will ever be leaked(fingers crossed) although if it did I’m not sure I’d want to see the remains of those poor souls. Stupid pilot

Re: Kobe Bryant Dies in Helicopter Crash

The audio recordings are on YouTube. They're just "pilot talk". I honestly had no idea what they were saying.

I'll see if I can find the one I heard.
