It appears the family believe they won't be able to marry their daughter off due to the attack. The judge has given credence to such views and as such, in my opinion, should never sit on a case of child abuse again. The parents may have some fucked up views on chastity but how will the victim feel later on knowing the judge has agreed with that bullshit

Unless the girls are taken away from their families and communities, they will have to live by their cultures rules.

Since they do have to live in the cultures, weather the judge agrees with the culture or not, they will have a worse outcome than victims outside of that culture.

No one is saying that the customs are good, just that there are likely outcomes when specific things occur.

To be ostracized for life, on top of being a victim of sexual abuse - IS worse than just being a victim. That is not writing off anyone who is a victim, it's just stating that there will be extra suffering on the Asian victims, due to their culture.

I can't understand for the life of me why anyone agrees with this. So if a parent went in and said i'm going to think my daughter is a disgusting worthless whore now she's been raped, the judge should jail the rapist for longer? No sorry, just because you have family that treat you like shit as well, or a "community" that treats you like shit, that doesn't come under the crime. Is someone who is considered a "slag" going to have to see their rapist jailed for a short time because nobody is going to think any different of her? This is wrong and a dangerous road to tread.
