Jonathon of Canada, Your 1985 Message in a Bottle Washed Up in Croatia
A message in a bottle has washed up on the shores of Croatia 28 years after being thrown into the sea in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The bottle was discovered when a group of kite surfers were cleaning the beach in Neretva, near Dubrovnik, in the far south of Croatia.
Members of the kite surfing clubs “Spilt” and “Komin” were preparing for a new season and organised an action to clean the beach when they came across a pile of battered looking bottles. A young member of the club, Matea Medak-Rezic, noticed that one of the old bottles had a message inside.
“I was picking up the bottles I then realized that there was a letter in one of them. I unwrapped the wet paper and read the following message: Mary, you really are a great person. I hope we can keep in correspondence. I said I would write. Your friend always, Jonathon. Nova Scotia '85."
The message and the bottle had travelled across the Atlantic Ocean, through the straights of Gibraltar, around the Mediterranean Sea, into the Adriatic Sea and washed up on the Dalmatian coast. A journey of around 4,000 miles as the crow flies, but this bottle probably made a journey at least five times longer.

What a great story. They will probably build a movie around this.

What a great story. They will probably build a movie around this.

There was a movie, perhaps more than one, about a letter that the recipient never received.

If memory serves, the woman had a baby and thought the man left them. After 20-25 years, she got a letter stating he wanted the child and would care for them.

He died in the mean time

We hear these stories occasionally in the US. A mail bag is found somewhere after many years.

I think a phone call would have been better.

Except there was no last name or phone number

Re: Jonathon of Canada, Your 1985 Message in a Bottle Washed Up in Croatia
Maybe it was a symbolic gesture to a departed loved one? Either way, neat story.
