Jay Whalley Has Tapeworm Cyst Removed From His Brain
 THE lead singer of Australian hard rockers Frenzal Rhomb has revealed he was forced to cancel a recent tour after surgeons discovered a pig tapeworm egg had infected his brain. In a tale worthy of the Twilight Zone, former Triple J announcer Jay Whalley enlightened fans to his recent health crisis which was four years in the making on the band's Facebook page yesterday.  After suffering two seizures after a gig on January 25, the Sydney singer was rushed to hospital where scans showed a one centimetre tumour. Whalley underwent a three-hour operation on February 14 and, instead of a cancerous tumour, surgeons found a mysterious parasitic infection. Further investigation revealed it to be ''basically the egg from a pig tapeworm'' which the vegetarian rocker may have picked up by accidental contact with an infected person during his Central American travels four years ago. ''Once in my stomach they never become tapeworms but they migrate into the muscle, most of the time causing no problem and you'll never know it's there, the only place you'll have problems is if they make it to your brain or eyes,'' Whalley explained. ''Once in the brain the body reacts by sealing it in a kind of cocoon or cyst where it quite happily lived for four f...ing years! ''It's only when it dies that the body has some kind of inflammatory response resulting in swelling which in turn lead to the seizures.''  Whalley apologised to fans for pulling out of the Descendents tour and joked that they could offer suggestions for the title of their next record based on his close encounter with the pig tapeworm egg in his brain. ''Ham Solo. Notorious P.I.G. Jabe. Jay Edgar Hoove-er. Porkwind. Oink182. You get the idea...So back to 'work' on album no. 9 and see you at a show soon enough,'' Whalley wrote. My personal opinion(from all I have read on the topic) is that you can't get a tapeworm from accidently brushing up against a fan or a person who has it. The egg must be ingested somehow. Most common method of ingestion is from eating pig meat. Second is from contact with feces and how that gets to your mouth I leave for conjecture. · · · |
