Jared Lee Loughner Gets 7 Life Sentences for Tucson Shooting Rampage
On January 8, 2011, at 7:04 a.m. MST, Loughner went to a Walmart store in the Foothills Mall to purchase ammunition, but left that store and completed his purchase at a Walmart on North Cortaro Road at 7:28 a.m. He was stopped by an Arizona Game and Fish Department officer at 7:34 a.m. for running a red light, but once the officer determined there were no outstanding warrants for Loughner, he was allowed to proceed to his destination with a warning to drive carefully. Loughner then took a taxi to a Safeway supermarket location in Casas Adobes, where Rep. Giffords was holding a constituents meeting. The shooting occurred at 10:10 a.m. MST. Loughner opened fire on Giffords, as well as numerous bystanders, killing six people. Thirteen other people were injured by gunfire, and one person was injured while fleeing the scene of the shooting. Giffords, the apparent target of the attack, was shot in the head and left in critical condition. <embed src="http://cnettv.cnet.com/av/video/cbsnews/atlantis2/cbsnews_player_embed.swf" scale="noscale" salign="lt" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" background="#333333" width="425" height="279" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" FlashVars="si=254&&contentValue=50134803&shareUrl= http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57547195/jared-lee-loughner-gets-7-life-sentences-for-tucson-shooting-rampage/" /> http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-...oting-rampage/ http://www.latimes.com/news/nationwo...,2771037.story http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/...56c_story.html |

I can only hope that one day he'll understand the gravity of what he's done. I think we all need to say something when we notice people in our lives who are not quite right, anymore.

BTW he killed multiple people and a little girl, that's why he will never have another free day. I do get what you're saying, but in this case, I disagree. Plus, things could have been much worse for him, IMO, he got off light. |

Re: Jared Lee Loughner Gets 7 Life Sentences for Tucson Shooting Rampage
We make it expensive and difficult to execute someone. When there's solid proof, confession and the whole nine yards..why do we keep them alive for decades? If we're trying to deter people from committing crimes wouldn't it deter more people if they were going to be killed right away than spend the rest of their lives not having to work, get to watch TV, free meals, free healthcare, etc.? What I don't get is some people say it's wrong to kill a killer that killed an innocent person but then they want them to suffer the rest of their life in jail. I guess I'll never understand why we're so afraid to step on someone's toes here but when another country does something we don't like we bomb them to hell. |

Re: Jared Lee Loughner Gets 7 Life Sentences for Tucson Shooting Rampage
yep.. thats exactly why these days, most crimes committed, the criminals who have a weapon on them kill themselves immediately after the crime is done.. most recently, the carjacker.. idk why you would kill yourself over a high speed chase.. wouldnt even get death penalty for that.. but he killed himself anyway.
