I can see the military and the correctional system using this idea to make cheap protein, but redacting its origin to simply being "organic waste", implying that it could also be derived from garbage, dead zoo animals, corpses, medical waste or slaughterhouse waste (to name a few).

Doesn't surprise me that the Japanese did this... a shitburger would go nicely with jenkem.
