After 105 years, the Italian police could now make out the culprit in a Mafia murder. The trail to the perpetrator was found after a raid on Sicily.

In a major raid against Sicilian Mafia Italian police have solved the murder of a U.S. Police Officer 105 years ago. The Italo-American Joe Petrosino, who had traveled in 1909 to investigate the connections of the underworld between Italy and the U.S. to Sicily, had been shot by a killer of the Cosa Nostra.

The authorities refer to the tape-statements of the 29-year-old Domenico Palazzotto, who also went to the police in the raid into the net. In it Palazzotto boasts so, his uncle Paolo had shot the U.S. police on the orders of Vito Cascio Ferro Boss.

Although after the murder more than two dozen suspects were indicted, but they were acquitted in 1911 for lack of evidence. Paolo Palazzotto died 1958.

The policeman Petrosino was a friend of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. Under his command several thousand suspects were arrested in the U.S., which should have the organization "Black Hand" belongs. After his death, he was honored with state records in Italy and the USA.
