Re: ISIS Executioner is Beheaded by SAS Sniper's Bullet ...
If y'all want to get nerdy with ballistics, there's an interesting channel on YouTube called Taufledermaus. Mostly just experimental shotgun slugs, but still fascinating. He plays with mercury alot as well. Regarding the Talons, it's a different ballgame altogether with pistol rounds. Talons were pretty good for awhile, but it really depends on what you're shooting and technology is constantly advancing. The two best service loads I've seen for handguns are Federal HST for .45acp (230gr from a 5" bbl reliably and consistently expanded to about the diameter of a Quarter while still maintaining adequate penetration) and Speer Gold Dot for 9mm (124gr +P fired from a Glock 19 is a winning combination). If you still want Talons, just go for Winchester Ranger SXT for handguns or Fail Safe for rifles. There are so many variables to consider when choosing which ammunition to carry, but the most important factors to consider in my opinion: 1. Reliability. It has to function in your weapon, or the design is useless. 2. Consistency. If the results aren't repeatable, then the benefits are moot. Above all you need range time. If you can't operate, then nothing else really matters. I may have been an Army grunt, but this is where I give Marines credit where it is due. The average 03XX is miles ahead of the average 11X and are phenomenal riflemen/women. They are absolute masters of the fundamentals of marksmanship, which is the key component to everything. Bullet construction and whiz-bang technology are useless without proper shot placement. |
