Re: Iraq | 500,000 Flee Mosul As Sunni Jihadists Pose 'mortal Threat' to Nation
The middle east has been a shitstorm for centuries. They may call Mesopotamia the 'cradle of civilization', but the rest of world shouldn't have to babysit these guys. |

They respect strength; brutal, heavy-handed, unchecked, freely-exercised strength. Exercise enough strength -- apply enough brute force -- and they will respect the ideas and agendas that said strength upholds. As wesrerners, we have the completely opposite approach: formulate proper laws and principles, and then employ strength in the enforcement thereof. But in the Middle East, that cart & horse equation is most effective when reversed. There's a certain degree of irony to it: the very principles to which we adhere that would facilitate an enlightening in that region are also the very same principles which prevent us from imposing our first-world ideologies in a language that they would understand and respect. |

Here is story about Iranian battalions WSJ: Iranian Forces Reportedly Help Iraqi Army Retake Tikrit Farnaz Fassihi reports in the Wall Street Journal that Iran's Revolutionary Guard forces are now active in Iraq, assisting the Iraqi army in the fight against ISIS militants in the city of Tikrit. Fassihi writes: "Two battalions of the Quds Forces, the elite overseas branch of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps that have long operated in Iraq, have come to the aid of the besieged, Shiite-dominated government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, they [Iranian security sources] said. Combined Iraqi-Iranian forces had retaken control across 85% of Tikrit, the birthplace of former dictator Saddam Hussein, according to Iraqi and Iranian security sources." Fassihi also notes that the leader of the Quds Forces, General Qasim Sulaimani, was in Baghdad this week to assist with the crisis. Earlier on Thursday, Agence France Presse reported Iranian President Rouhani had pledged to "... combat violence, extremism and terrorism in the region and the world."
