Re: Indiana Man Mauled to Death by His Pit Bull on Christmas Day
If you can't tell that your dog is unstable and have blinders on because you "love him so much. He's SUCH A GREAT DOG!" Odds are, something real bad is going to happen. Dumb people can love dogs wholeheartedly - but that doesn't mean they know what they're doing or are doing right by the dog. Ever see people with little dogs that are aggressive and bite the owner, or everyone else if they get close - yet STILL say the dog is sweet and a perfect little angel? There are people who have big dogs that are the same. Dumb people with unhinged animals is always a bad combination. Dogs in shelter situations can't be trusted, because they are not in a stable, safe situation. They shut down and may act real friendly, but it isn't their true temperament. It takes time to see what their true temperament is. Even after adoption, it sometimes takes at least a month or more in a stable routine in your home, to really see the dog's true self. That's any breed. Pit Bulls are not a minority breed in the U.S. Most are not registered, therefore, are not counted in breed tally ups. There are waaay more out there than you think there are. You aren't hearing about them, because they aren't in the press. Dogs who behave don't make headlines. |

Re: Indiana Man Mauled to Death by His Pit Bull on Christmas Day
Even if this dog was the nicest dog in the world, what's scary is that a dog who has been with the same owner for 8 years, since he was a puppy, would do such a thing. Regardless of the breed, what possesses a dog to basically kill and chomp up his owners face? |

Re: Indiana Man Mauled to Death by His Pit Bull on Christmas Day
I think the bigger question is why would someone want to own a dog capable of doing that to ANYONE. Why would you keep a dog with a history of aggressive and unpredictable behavior? Why would you tell the news that the dog was around your kids, after it just killed your husband? Why would you tell people you were previously advised to get rid of the dog because it was dangerous? The wife isn't even smart enough to realize how bad her statements are making her look. |
