PHILADELPHIA - December 20, 2012 (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia woman has just been sentenced for leaving her baby on the streets in a cardboard box just before Christmas last year.

34-year-old Patricia "Dina" Crawley admitted to dumping her baby in a box on a street corner in North Philadelphia - just four days before Christmas. A year later, she got an early Christmas gift from the judge.

The infant was nursed back to health at the hospital, where she was named, "Baby Noel".

Crawley was found months later, and admitted to police that she had been high on crack at the time and panicked when she gave birth. She said she hoped someone would find the baby.

The prosecutor argued that Crawley was only thinking of herself, and that it wasn't about finding a safe harbor for the baby it was about getting rid of the baby.

The judge disagreed during her sentencing Thursday morning. She said she has seen a lot worse done by mothers who were high at the time and said there was something inside Crawley that said 'I'm at least going to do the best I can.'

At the time, Crawley had an admitted $300 a day crack addiction. She was selling herself to pay for the drugs. The judge took her severe addiction into consideration during sentencing today.

The prosecution asked for two and half to five years in jail. Instead, the judge said there is some hope for Crawley being rehabilitated, so she sentenced her to about a year in an in-patient rehabilitation center. If Crawley violates any terms of her sentence, the judge says she will definitely throw her in jail then.

Newborn Girl Found in a Box in North Philadelphia

Investigators check out a box in which an abandoned baby was found on the morning of December 21, 2011, photo below. Maybe it was divine intervention.

Church members doing a weekly cleanup of a North Philadelphia block discovered a newborn baby girl inside a cardboard box on a sidewalk Wednesday morning.

The infant, just hours old, was rushed to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where she was listed in good condition Wednesday afternoon.

"I just got back from vacation, so I wasn't going to come, [do the community cleanup]. But my wife said I should go, because [today], is trash day," said Robert Taylor, 65, of Hunting Park, who found the box with his friend Homer Keller. "It's Christmas time, but this is a horrible incident any day. For someone to do this to a child, it just hurts."

The Philadelphia Police Department has identified the mother of Baby Noel—the baby girl abandoned in a box on a North Philly street. They say that Patricia Crowley, aka, Alisha Bogan, or Dina, is wanted for attempted murder.

If I'm not mistaken, she has other children. I'll have to pull up the original article and add it.

What I found does not state any other children. With all the abuse and murders of babies, I may have this one confused with another. Glad that I did not find any others.

It's not fair that wastes of flesh get pregnant so easily!

I wanted to see what the baby looks like now, but, I figured they didn't want the incubator to see her and get any ideas to sell her for drugs.

She doesn't deserve that baby back, She could have just as easily handed the child to someone she passed rather then leave it out in the cold in a box where the poor baby could have died from the cold.
