Incubator Left Two Babies in Car After DUI Crash

by WALTER PEREZ

BRISTOL, PA - October 21, 2013 (WPVI) -- A Bucks County woman has been jailed on charges that she endangered her two young children by leaving them behind when she allegedly fled the scene after crashing her vehicle into parked cars while driving drunk.

Jamie Lynn Wilkinson of Bensalem is accused of fleeing the accident scene and leaving behind her 6-month and 18-month-old daughters.

Until this issue is resolved, Jamie Lynn's mother Caroline Wilkinson says she is ready to help.

"Don't worry about the kids, cause I'll take care of them. That's all I can do, they're my grandbabies," Caroline said.

It all began Saturday night when witnesses say the clearly intoxicated 34 year old mother tried backing out of a dead-end on Chestnut Street in Bristol Borough.

Witness Lee Jacobs says she heard the collision when Wilkinson's car allegedly rammed her parked SUV.

When Jacobs came outside to get her insurance information, Wilkinson took off running.

That's when Jacobs realized there were two babies in the backseat.

"The kids? They were soaked in urine. Their Pampers were soaked. I've never seen it before. That really did take my heart," Lee Jacobs said.

Police quickly arrived and Wilkinson was arrested after investigators found her a few blocks away.

Meantime, Jamie Lynn's mom says her daughter is still an emotional wreck after breaking off a relationship that turned abusive.

Caroline says the jailhouse phone call she received from Jamie Lynn this weekend was absolutely heartbreaking.

"She was crying the whole time. 'Is my kids okay? Is my kids okay?'" Caroline said.

In fact, Caroline says the important thing now is for her to support her daughter until she can put her life back together.

"She's got two beautiful kids out of the deal. All I can do is be there for them," Caroline said.

She remained in the Bucks County prison Monday, unable to post bond.

For the new people, I use, "incubator," in place of, "mother," for those whom I don't think should have babies.

**Cops: Bensalem Woman Crashed car, Left Babies Behind**

After smashing into two parked cars while driving drunk in Bristol, a 34 year old Bensalem woman left her two babies in her damaged vehicle and took off, police said.

“You are in big trouble here,” Lower Southampton District Judge John Waltman told Jamie Lynn Wilkinson during her arraignment early Sunday.

Bristol police allege that Wilkinson was driving while intoxicated when her vehicle struck the parked cars in the 1000 block of Chestnut Street around 8 p.m. Saturday.

Residents in the neighborhood tended to the abandoned children, who are 6 months and 18 months old, police said.

One neighbor was holding one of the children when police arrived, according to a probable cause affidavit. Other neighbors told police they had a second baby inside a house. They also told police that Wilkinson, after striking the cars, got out of her vehicle and ran, court documents show.

She was apprehended two blocks from the accident scene, police said.

Both babies were taken to police headquarters, where they had to have their diapers changed because they were soaked with urine, according to the affidavit. Police notified Bucks County Children and Youth officials who later released the children to Wilkinson’s sister.

Wilkinson, who told Waltman she has four children, is already awaiting trial in Bucks County Court on an assault case from earlier this year. She told Waltman that she failed to appear at her July preliminary hearing in the earlier case, during which charges were held against her.

She now faces charges of DUI, endangering the welfare of children, reckless endangerment, accidents to unattended vehicles and related offenses, and was sent to Bucks County prison in lieu of 10 percent of $500,000 bail.

I don't know if you watched the video, but, her mother is almost bald, as is another woman also caring for the children. I assume they are both ill.

I didn't know until I read the article that there were two more older children at home I thought the incubator was in her 20s.

The infants look almost like twins, just a year apart

Seeing the link I'm sure it is self explanatory.
(Last week local news article...)

TOWER CITY — A man from Schuylkill County is locked up after police say they found a 2 year old in his care playing with a syringe filled with heroin.
Ray Lucas, 27, of Tower City is facing child endangerment and drug charges.
According to investigators, Lucas was found sleeping in a car around 9 a.m. Thursday in a parking lot in Lebanon while the toddler played with two syringes in the back seat.
Lucas is locked up with bail set at $50,000.
