Hospital Gives Couple Wrong Stillborn Baby to Bury
A Brooklyn family whose baby was stillborn has filed a $5 million lawsuit against the city after learning they buried the wrong body in their native Poland because of a mix-up at the medical examiner's office. "I'm hurt to the point where I can't move forward," said Justyna Sliwa, who was pregnant for five months before her baby was stillborn in May. "I want my baby put to peace." Sliwa and her husband, Rafal, held a memorial service in Brooklyn on June 16. The funeral home sent the remains to the couple's hometown of Lomza, Poland, where a Roman Catholic funeral was held June 19. They learned weeks later of the mistake. Now, they said they have filed a $5 million claim against the city for mixing up the baby they named "Angel." Information on the other family was not made public. A spokeswoman for the medical examiner's office, Ellen Borakove, said the babies had "strikingly similar names.'' The office is investigating how the mix-up occurred. Borakove called it a "tragic, unfortunate error we have to make right.'' *So, now we know $5M is what being given a wrong baby is worth!* |

Re: Hospital Gives Couple Wrong Stillborn Baby to Bury
Another Frivolous Lawsuit. I think they should get a little something but NOT get wealthy off the deal. Honest People make mistakes too Oh and FYI a stillborn is technically not considered a live human being in my State and therefore no Certificate of Death required. So I'm pretty sure the payouts will be minimal due to mental suffering. Oh and the funeral home is partially to blame as they should have noticed the name fuck up |

I agree, they should get a little something, but not 5 million. I'm sure it hurts beyond belief to not be able to see your child grow up, but these ridiculous lawsuits wanting an obscene amount of money have to stop. |

Re: Hospital Gives Couple Wrong Stillborn Baby to Bury
In the case of the two blonde teen girls, wherein one died and one lived and the hospital screwed them up, a large sum would be fair. I cannot imagine how both sets of parents felt - one thinking their daughter is alive and one burying who they thought was their deceased daughter! Terrible, to say the least! I cannot even think of a word! In this case, both of these babies were stillborn and it's not quite the same. Both mothers had to deal with the loss immediately. I couldn't put a dollar amount on either. |

Sounds to me like Pavel and Olga try to grift a golden ticket to the High Society "I reached a point where I can´t go on with life, but 5mill$ can totally solve this. Why spend it on education and infrastructure?" |
