A homeless man in Southern California is accused of stealing a woman's identity, and posing as the female victim for 13 years in a plot to get medical care.

Officers said the man, who used the name Perla Serrano, 51, stole the woman's identity to rack up more than $100,000 worth of medical treatment in emergency rooms at hospitals in Orange County for more than a decade, KTLA reported.
Serrano was only discovered when an eagle-eyed sheriff's deputy noticed he was wearing a hospital wristband while sleeping outdoors. Police said they were able to determine that he had stolen the woman's identity.
Authorities have charged Serrano with felony counts of unauthorized use of personal identifying information, false impersonation, second-degree burglary and grand theft.
He is being held in a men's jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Bah,if you guys in the US had public health care like we do in Australia people wouldn't resort to that kind of shit.When I was a kid,my widowed,impoverished mother had a heart condition and had two lots of open heart surgery for free.Without it,we would have been orphans.She lived 25 years longer than she would've without it and we didn't have to go into care.People are entitled to medical care,whatever their situation in life.Not saying what he did was right,but clearly he needed the medical help or they would've turned him away.It's not like he cleared out her bank account.I've never understood how Americans who are all for free education,think free health care for those who can't afford it is the first step to communism.

its not free. somebody has to pay for it. the people who pay for it are called taxpayers.
the person should get a job and get health insurance or if the job doesnt offer insurance get it from a private company.
and if someone is in need of care w/o insurance, ER's wont kick the person out.
