Fresh out of highschool I was raising rabbits. They do that thumping thing as a warning. Between rabbits it's a signal of danger to warn other rabbits that trouble is coming. I have also seen them do it when they didn't want me messing about in thier cages.

What a good rabbit  The only problem with the males is they flip urine with their heels all over the walls. I love rabbits, but I switched to guinea pigs, no flipping pee pee. |
