BRAVE soldier Iain Martin lies flat to defuse a bomb in Afghanistan - one of TWELVE he made safe in just ten hours.
It was a record for the number deactivated in a single operation. The Improvised Explosive Devices were planted by the Taliban on the notorious Bandi Barq Road near Gereshk.



It was used as a weapons corridor by insurgents until a recent Allied offensive in the area. The hidden bombs - aimed at blowing up troops and vehicles - were all over a distance of just 300 metres.

The soldier, who leads a team of Royal Logistic Corps disposal heroes, added: "There was a huge variety and represented a real challenge for us. Our reward came after we finished and an Afghan family came on to the road with their goats, looking around like they hadn't trodden on the land in years."

Iain, of Edinburgh, added: "The locals have confidence in us to improve their lives. That's a great feeling."

The operation came days after another route was cleared of three bombs in the area of Babaji.

That wasn't my intention to discredit the man. All I'm saying is it's really no point in reporting back to us because we aren't there to verify it ourselves. Now if people are killed obviously you can't fake being dead.

I just have a habit of believing only half of what I see and none of what I hear from ppl I know will lie at a pins drop, many times for no reason.
